International Franchise Law: The World is Yours!

  • Are you planning to take your franchise brand into offshore markets?

  • Need to learn more about the legal and regulatory requirements in overseas markets?

  • Spend 1-3 hours per week online for 6 weeks to learn more about International Franchise Law as part of your due diligence for offshore expansion!

One of the speakers at the 2016 National Franchise Convention Legal Symposium, Dr Jenny Buchan of UNSW Australia Business School, is hosting a free of charge MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) called International Franchise Law: The World is Yours for 1-3 hours per week for 6 weeks. It starts on 5 September 2016.

This course explores the intricacies of International Franchising through the lens of the law - and it's suitable for anyone who would like to know more about franchising. It will introduce participants to international franchise law and will enhance their skills in assessing the viability of franchising a business internationally.

Participants can complete the entire course for free!

Some of the foreign legal experts involved in the MOOC, for example Rupert Barkoff are well-known to many in the Australian franchise community. We explore topics like due diligence, agreements, disclosure laws, intellectual property, competition law, tax law, dispute resolution, exit options, and the recent emergence of social franchising.

CFE Candidates can claim education credits provided they pay for the Certificate of Achievement to claim their credits. To qualify for these credits, CFE candidates must complete 90% or more of the steps on this course, attempt all test questions and attain an average test score of 70% or greater. The cost of a Certificate of Achievement is £49 plus shipping  (approx $83 plus shipping).

When the MOOC ran for the first time in early 2016, 3500 people from 98 countries registered to participate.

Here is what some previous participants have said about their learning experience:

"Thank you so much to all the people that made this course such a wonderful learning experience. I have enjoyed all the resources in the course as well as all the comments from my fellow learners and educators. You have done excellent work"! (Lorena Pacheco, by CC BY-NC-ND, via FutureLearn)

"I've worked in franchising in the UK for a long time but am not a lawyer so this was a very informative 'bridge' to add to my understanding of the issues". (Cathy Hayes, by CC BY-NC-ND, via FutureLearn)
