Course Overview

Franchise Advisory Council's (FAC's) are a representative committee of franchisees which act as an interface between franchisees and franchisors on tactical and strategic issues. They can provide significant benefits to both groups when established and run correctly, and help build competitive advantage for a brand by fostering a culture of engagement and innovation.

FAC's that are focussed and operated correctly are an asset to a franchise network. However, FAC's that are poorly structured and managed can quickly lose their way and lose credibility with both franchisees and franchisor management.

This workshop provides a unique opportunity for mature systems to learn how to reinvigorate their Franchise Advisory Council's, and will provide developing systems key pointers on how to establish an effective FAC.

  • Relaunching an FAC after a previous failure
  • Developing a Charter for your FAC
  • Common Charter provisions and challenges
  • Appointing and electing representatives
  • Other franchisee committees or FAC subcommittees
  • Methods of meeting (teleconference, web, in-person, etc)
  • Determining meeting frequency and duration
  • Creating an agenda
  • Meeting procedure and protocols
  • Keeping to the agenda
  • Dealing with non-negotiable issues
  • Personal agendas and undisclosed issues
  • Minute-taking and distribution
  • Managing meeting outcomes
  • Resolutions between meetings
  • Recognition of FAC contributors

Seminar Presenter:
Jason Gehrke, Director, Franchise Advisory Centre

With more than 18 years experience at franchisee, franchisor and advisor level, and a Masters in Business Administration, Jason has a comprehensive and practical knowledge of franchising.

He is a past CEO of a Franchisor of the Year winner, and has also been awarded by the Franchise Council of Australia (FCA) for his Contribution to Franchising. Jason is a longstanding FCA committee member, is a member of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's (ACCC) Franchise Consultative Panel, and is the publisher of Franchise News & Events, a fortnightly news bulletin for the franchise sector.
