VIC FORUM: Competition & Consumer Act (CCA) Refresher 16/11/2017

Competition & Consumer Act (CCA) Refresher

The Competition and Consumer Act (CCA) is a critical piece of legislation for Franchisors and Franchisees alike.

This CCA Refresher will cover aspects of the CCA pertinent to franchising, including misleading and deceptive conduct, unconscionable conduct, the Australian Consumer Law and the Unfair Contract Terms regime.

About the Facilitators: Laura Young, Partner & Marian Ngo, Associate, HWL Ebsworth Lawyers

Laura Young is a Partner in HWL Ebsworth's commercial group. She advises and acts on matters ranging from strategic transactions to all aspects of daily operations, ranging from incorporations and corporate governance, drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts to advising on the sale and purchase of businesses.  Laura also regularly advises clients on other competition matters including issues associated with misleading and deceptive conduct and unconscionable conduct.

Marian Ngo is an Associate in HWL Ebsworth's commercial group. Marian has a wealth of private practice and corporate franchising experience, which extends to commercial and operational roles she has held with various national franchisors.

Laura and Marian are both part of HWL Ebsworth's Franchising & Retail team and have been involved in presenting jointly with the ACCC on the implications of the extension of the unfair contract term regime to small business contracts.
