On the Couch with Franchisees

Hear from the experiences of 4 different franchisees of various backgrounds and brands. Through an hour long casual interview format we will explore:

1. How they came to get into franchising
2. What attracts them to the franchise model
3. How they have come to be successful within franchising
4. What they see as the advantages & disadvantages of franchising
5. What their suggestions are on improving the franchisee/franchisor relationship

The session will be facilitated by Rajiv Rajan from Finn Franchise Brokers

Preeti Soni - The Coffee Club - Franchisee for one year
Neil Platts - McDonalds & The Coffee Club - Multi unit franchisee for more than twenty years
Graeme Muston - Subway & Muzz Buzz - Multi unit franchisee for more than ten years

Along with the informative panel, we will also hear from Wendy Attenborough, General Manager, Regulatory Services, Workcover WA. Wendy will speak about what is work cover and how it effects your business.

Rajiv Rajan - Facilitator
Rajiv was a Senior Executive with 15 years of highly successful experience in two blue chip Pharmaceutical and Life Science companies. Since immigrating to Australia, and prior to joining Finn Franchise Brokers, Rajiv has worked as a Management Consultant, specialising in Sales Force Effectiveness. With a strong commercial background and MBA qualified, Rajiv has performed a broad range of functions in Sales & Marketing, applying diverse solutions to complex business challenges.
He now specialises purely in helping local Perth people in buying and selling franchise businesses

Neil & Andrea Platts - Franchisee
Neil started his career with McDonald's when he was 15 and went onto fulfill many roles within the organisation from Restaurant Manager to Operations Manager. After 20 years he decided to become a franchise and went on to own the Joondalup, Mindarie, & Currambine locations with a combined turnover of $16,000,000. After selling all three franchises Neil & Andrea have gone on to own multiple hotels/motels and have recently opened The Coffee Club in Joondalup Square. They have achieved all of this as well as raising 5 daughters and have a wealth of experience to share.

Graeme Muston - Franchisee
Graeme started his franchise career with Subway over 10 years ago and went on to own 3 franchise locations south of the river in Perth. After selling all three successfully he pursued a career in fatherhood for 4 years looking after his twin boys until they reached school age. He has now re-entered the franchising game through buying his first Muzz Buzz store in Subiaco. With plans to expand his empire within the brand he looks set to continue his success.

Quinten De Graaf - Franchisee
Quinten DeGraaf is Retail Operations Manager for Chicken Treat, based in WA.
Quinten has 20 years of experience in the Franchise sector and has the rare experience of being both a current franchisee and a senior manager for a franchisor.
At present, Quinten is leading the refurbishment of several Chicken Treat stores, driving the QSRH strategy of driving growth in the Chicken Treat brand.
In addition to his role with QSRH, Quinten owns a number of Muzz Buzz stores, run successfully under management.

Preeti Soni - Franchisee
Preeti has a long and successful track record in the SME sector. Preeti and her husband run a large and successful hardware business in their native South Africa. To this day, Preeti's husband Aneil runs the business in South Africa and lives the FIFO lifestyle between Continents. In 2013 Preeti and her business partner and close friend Bindya Patel, having relocated to Australia, purchased The Coffee Club, Belmont Forum. The ladies took over the only 6 star rated Coffee Club in Perth and have built a strong and successful business.
This was Preeti's first venture in to the Australian Franchise sector and the business is now poised for bigger things.
