WA Franchising and Business Opportunities Expo Round-up

26 May 2011

The Franchising and Business Opportunities Expo was held in WA over the weekend.

Following on from the success of the Sydney Expo which attracted 4000 attendees, WA saw 2000 attend over the two day event, a good result for the state.

Exhibitors reported that the quality of people present at the expo was high, and included a mix of first time franchisees and the more experienced.

A surprise attendee was WA backbench MP Peter Abetz, who is the MP trying to introduce new franchising laws into WA. Mr Abetz appeared at the franchisee pre-entry information session and proceeded to ask a number of questions, loaded with negative comment, about “rogue franchisors”. Panellists responded to Mr Abetz’s questions and FCA WA State President Mike Stringer spoke to him later. Mr Abetz later issued a critical blog.

FCA Chairman Stephen Giles and Director Jason Gehrke, who is involved in FCA and Griffith University franchisee pre-entry education activities, responded to these claims and challenged Mr Abetz’s approach.Click here to read an article responding to these claims which appeared in a internet business magazine.
