The journey of selling or closing a small business

Written on the 27 April 2015

Selling or closing your business can be challenging, especially when you have to contact many government agencies.

The ATO in conjunction with the Department of Industry and Science, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission and the Fair Work Ombudsman have developed a series of videos to help you understand your regulatory obligations when selling or closing your business.

The journey of selling or closing a business is the result of the ATO led, cross-agency initiative - Small Business Fix-it Squads - where small business owners work in a team with federal, state and local government regulators to look at a problem through the eyes of the small business owner. The same 'squad' then recommends fixes for the problem.

The journey of selling or closing a small business includes the following webcasts:

  1. Sell or close a business -  investigate
  2. Sell or close a business -  get ready
  3. Sell or close a business - find a buyer
  4. Sell or close a business - contract preparation
  5. Sell or close a business - settlement preparation
  6. Sell or close a business - finalise after sale closure
  7. Sell or close a business - Q&A
