Small business owners honoured at NAB FCA VIC/TAS Excellence in Franchising Awards

21 August 2012

The Franchise Council of Australia (FCA) honoured franchisees and support staff from across Victoria and Tasmania on Friday night at the NAB FCA VIC/TAS Excellence in Franchising Awards.

Winners on the night included Thinesh Thangarajah from Mister Minit Chadstone who took out the Franchisee of the Year, less than two staff accolade and Mike Fisher from Bakers Delight Highton who won Franchisee Community Service, with Field Manager of the Year going to Jason Mason from The Coffee Club.

There were two back to back winners on the night with Matt and Brad Walker from Grill’d again taking out Multi-Unit Franchisee of the Year, and Anthony Smith from Mortgage Choice in Cheltenham once again winning Franchisee of the Year, two or more staff.

Corina Vucic, founder of FC Business Solutions and Victorian State Chapter Committee member took home the Franchise Woman of the Year accolade.

Matt and Brad Walker, back-to-back winners in 2011 and 2012 said the awards were a great opportunity to delve more deeply into their business.

“We love the fact that we are able to look internally and dig deeper into things that we can only challenge ourselves on... The awards make us look at every single thing in one package which is really beneficial for us. We are aware of each of the elements that go into it (the submission), they’re not new to us, but to see them all together is where the real value is,” the pair said.

Field Manager of the Year, Jason Mason from The Coffee Club said his working relationship with his franchisees was a major part of his win.

“The key for me as a Field Manager is it’s all about the people. I’m sitting here with one of my best franchisees, which is great, because we’re in business together and we’re invested in seeing each other do well,” Jason said.

Franchise Woman of the Year, Corina Vucic said the win was particularly special, as she was surrounded by her team on the night.

“The win felt great. Most importantly it’s wonderful to be able to celebrate with the team and understand that we can be role models both from a female point of view and from a leadership point of view,” Corina said.

In keeping with the theme of success, MC and guest speaker for the evening, former Olympian Nicole Livingstone treated the full house to a wrap up of the recent London games and anecdotes from her stellar career following the conclusion of the awards ceremony.

All winners now qualify as finalists for the NAB FCA National Excellence in Franchising Awards Gala Dinner to be held at the Canberra Convention Centre on Tuesday 9 October 2012. Click here to register.
