Franchising has been the common thread that has helped the high achieving small business owners recognised by the Franchise Council of Australia's 2019 Queensland/Northern Territory Excellence in Franchising Awards to follow their passion and realise their business and personal goals.

Chris has been recognised within the network as Franchisee of the Year and received a High Achievers Award in 2018.

Jason Hand, Wendy Hand and David Begg were the first InXpress franchisees in Australia when they started their business in a garage 10 years ago. The three long-time logistics professionals have come a long way from those early days when they took a leap of faith an joined InXpress seeing a growth opportunity in their industry without the need to invest in the large overheads of a traditional freight business.

Following a career in the United Kingdom and Queensland Health Departments, Kate Davidson qualified as a Personal Trainer in 2012. After working for Bootcamps Australia in Brisbane, Kate moved with husband Mike to Noosa. Here Kate found, and fell in love with, the EFM model and worked at EFM Noosaville for 10 months. On 1 November 2015 Kate became the new Franchisee, Manager and Head Coach at EFM Noosaville. Since then, Kate has twice been voted one of the Top Ten Personal Trainers on the Sunshine Coast and was awarded EFM Health Clubs Eastern States Franchise of the Year in September 2018.

Tim Spreadborough has been the Hire A Hubby Queensland Operations Manager since mid-2017, after being promoted from the role of Field Manager. Prior to that, Tim operated his own Hire A Hubby franchise for eight years, growing it to be the second highest performing franchise in the network, with an annual turnover $550,000 at the time of sale. He was the 2013 Hire A Hubby National Franchisee of the Year. Tim's experience as a franchisee within the brand provides him with a unique insight into what Hire a Hubby franchisees need to succeed and he is driven to help franchisees achieve their own business goals.

Joanne Heidke has been a part of the Bakers Delight network for over 12 years and runs the Burleigh Heads bakery with her husband, Rob on the Gold Coast. Joanne's tireless efforts to support community groups throughout her local area during her past 12 years as a franchisee have been extraordinary. Her 2018 campaign to support Australian women in crisis through the homeless women's charity Share the Dignity was both a remarkable success and a timely reminder that bakeries remain at the heart of communities.

Congratulating the winners, FCA CEO Mary Aldred said "The outstanding effort by the franchisees who took out the awards, and their contribution as successful small to medium business operators, shows the positive impact franchising can have on employment, the economy and community".

"The businesses run by these franchise owners are fantastic examples of small to medium businesses achieving in a tough environment and setting the benchmark for franchising in Queensland and the Northern Territory," said Mary Aldred.

Following their success, the QLD/NT state winners have qualified as finalists for the MYOB FCA National Excellence in Franchising Awards. The Gala Awards Dinner will be the closing event of the 2019 National Franchise Convention on the Gold Coast on Tuesday 22nd October.
