The Age, Tuesday 14 August 2012

Like any business, taking on a franchise requires plenty of thought and planning and if you intend visiting the Franchising & Business Opportunities Expo, it would be well worth planning your day to make the most of it.

With such a vast range of exhibitors, seminars and advice centres, it helps to prioritise exactly what advice you are after, who might be able to help and what franchises you might be interested in.

First stop would be to book appointments at the Franchising Advice Centre with financial or legal advisers, as these fill quickly.

Once you have times locked in for those, check out the seminar program and see what appeals to you most or what sessions you are likely to gain the most from and take a note of the times.

Then once you know what times you need to set aside, you can stare planning to visit the various business and franchise exhibitors that you might be interested in.

It helps to narrow down your choice by already having an understanding of how much you are prepared to invest, what sore of industry appeals to you and what your strengths and capabilities are and how they might be applied to a successful business.

That way you can mark off the appropriate exhibitors on the floor plan and spend the maximum time with those that meet your needs.

Finally, don’t forget to visit the Franchise Council of Australia stand if you have any questions about franchising.

And most of all enjoy yourself as you could be about to take the first step to becoming your own boss.
