Written on the 6 August 2019 by FCA Media Release

A belief in paving the way in business and focusing on creating a successful path for staff to achieve personal success is a shared theme among the high achieving small business owners recognised by the Franchise Council of Australia's 2019 NSW Excellence in Franchising Awards.

Liz Nable discovered her passion for entrepreneurship, business and fitness completely by accident when she first experienced the barre workout while living in New York City. Up to this point, she had been pursuing her dream of investigative journalism and was traveling around the world working in news. When she arrived back in Sydney, she moved on from journalism and became the first Xtend Barre franchisee, opening her studio in Mosman.  Fast forward seven years, and she is now proud Owner/Operator of three additional studios all on Sydney's Northern Beaches.

Peter Kerr has been owner of the ANZ Mobile Lending Sydney CBD franchise since 2004. In 2018 he expanded and purchased the ANZ Mobile Lending North Sydney franchise. In 2018 he was awarded ANZ Mobile Lending's High Achievers Award. He was attracted to the bank because of the opportunity to grow a business in partnership with one of the most recognised brands in Australia. More than 60% of Peter's business is through repeat clients and client referrals.

Quest St Leonards Franchisee, Brent Howard joined Quest after successfully establishing and operating two Grill'd burger restaurants in Melbourne over eight years. Prior to Grill'd, Brent spent the majority of his career as a procurement manager, working in the transport and logistics, travel, mining and construction sectors.

Francois Nila joined Hire A Hubby in 2016 as a Field Manager and was responsible for managing 25 franchisees located in Sydney. The following year, he was promoted to the role of NSW/ACT Operations Manager and today is responsible for a team of four Field Managers, who support 125 franchisees across New South Wales and the ACT.

Winner of the Franchisee Community Responsibility & Contribution, Celeste Godwin, was born and educated in Forster and is well-known for her love of the area, which shows when dealing with her clients and the community. Celeste is Head Accountant and Director of TaxAssist Accountants Australia in Forster, specialising in tax and payroll.

Congratulating the winners, FCA CEO Mary Aldred said "The outstanding effort by the franchisees who took out the awards, and their contribution as successful small to medium business operators, shows the positive impact franchising can have on employment, the economy and community".
"The businesses run by these franchise owners are fantastic examples of small to medium businesses achieving in a tough environment and setting the benchmark for franchising in New South Wales", said Mary Aldred.

Following their success, the NSW state winners have qualified as finalists for the MYOB FCA National Excellence in Franchising Awards.

The Gala Awards Dinner will be the closing event of the 2019 National Franchise Convention on the Gold Coast on Tuesday 22nd October.
