Government commences consultation on Code review

Written on the 17 June 2013

Media Release

The Australian Government announced it will commence consultation on the Franchising Code of Conduct Review at a press conference at Parliament House in Canberra today.

The FCA will be a leading participant in the consultation process, and Kym De Britt represented the FCA at today’ s event. He is also meeting with other key stakeholders and politicians during the day.

Minister for Small Business, Gary Gray MP and Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business Bernie Ripoll MP led the conference and made clear their support of the franchising sector in Australia.

"This consultation reflects the Government's commitment to providing certainty and confidence in the franchising sector," Mr Gray said.

Mr Gray stressed the importance of consultation in guiding any changes to the Franchising Code of Conduct and the overall strengthening of franchising in Australia.

"The consultation paper seeks to identify the regulatory impact to the franchise sector of implementing the review recommendations but does not reflect a settled government position.

"The Government wants the sector to grow and develop as an essential part of our economy," he said.
The Franchise Council of Australia looks forward to working collaboratively with the Government during consultation and supporting its initial brief of the review.
