Franchising success celebrated at South Australian Franchising Awards Gala

Written on the 15 August 2010 by Franchise Council of Australia

The SA franchise community celebrated an outstanding year in business at the SA Excellence in Franchising Awards gala dinner at the Sebel Playford on Saturday night (21 Aug).

The Excellence in Franchising Awards celebrates - both regionally and nationally - the success of hard working Australian small business people in the franchise sector.

And now we announce the winners!

SA Multi-Unit Franchisee of the Year

Brad UnderhillKarmen Wakelin & Kylie Leopold from Endota Spa took out the SA Multi-Unit Franchisee of the Year Award. This is the 3rd win for Karmen and Kylie at the Excellence in Franchising Awards. Together, they make up a very successful business partnership. Their success is maintained by working on their business - not in it. Through the hiring of Business Operations Managers and Spa Managers, Karmen and Kylie are able to focus on business growth and development. Achieving consistent year on year growth since opening their stores, the last 12 months have seen significant growth - through increased local area marketing, store renovations, increased trading hours and increased focus on expense control.

Runner Up - Rebecca Arriola - Hairhouse Warehouse

SA Franchisee Community Service Award

Ashley CoburnGreg Campbell, Franchisee with Mortgage Choice - Unley took out the SA Franchisee Community Service Award. This win represents back to back success for Greg, who took out the inaugural SA and national Franchisee Community Service Award in 2009. Greg's contributions to the Camp Quality Charity for kids with cancer, makes him one of the most "giving" franchisees in the community. He has trekked the Kokoda Trail - raising over $110,000 - and more recently has introduced a new fund raising mechanism into his business with Camp Quality as the beneficiary. The mechanism called "Sports Rewards" has more than doubled the amount of money they receive for the sales of Camp Quality books. But often more importantly, Greg gives his TIME to Camp Quality, as a member of the committee, attending Camps as a "Companion" and mentor, and as a major participant at the Camp Quality fund raising balls.

Runner Up - Sylv Capurso, Bakers Delight St Agnes
Merit - Ron & Sue Lawns, Bakers Delight Munno Para

Tim is the Chairman of the Marketing Advisory Team at SafetyQuip, communicating the views of the franchisees to the Franchisor. He also hosts franchisees wanting to study his franchise to see how a successful business operates. Tim and Cassie dedicate a lot of time and energy into training and managing their staff – with external sales professionals brought in to train sales staff and motivate them to succeed. They are also strong on business growth, adding a Mobile Safety Shop into their business as a way to increase sales and differentiate themselves from their competitors.

1st Runner Up – Peter Bonnici, Bakers Delight Kurralta Park
2nd Runner Up – David Wegener, Club Financial Services
Merit - Manuel Karkafiris, The Cheescake Shop - Park Holme

SA Franchisee of the year - Less than 2 staff

Brian DenvirMark Carn, Franchisee with Action Coach was the popular winner of the SA Franchisee of the Year - Less than 2 staff Award. Joining Action Coach in 2005, Mark is now achieving a 30% increase in sales year-on-year and a 27% increase in net profit. Mark's success as a business coach - and his determination to succeed - can be attributed to a number of things - his quick adoption of social media as a marketing tool, his financial emphasis on local area marketing (above and beyond the fees paid to the franchisor) and his contribution to the community, All these factors have played a part in Mark’s success. Ultimately though - as a business coach, it's the success of Mark's clients that determines Mark's achievements, and the glowing testimonials included in his submission, suggests Mark will be a success for many years to come.

Runner Up - Chris Hammond, V.I.P. Home Services - Norwood
