Eyes on the franchise: business model

THE franchising industry continues to grow, attracting new businesses and new people willing to give it a go, and it comes as the level of regulation has been stepped up following government inquiries into the sector.

It even appears the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission has caught some franchisors behaving badly.

That has not always been the case. As the franchisee protection level has improved, Hall & Wilcox partner and head of franchising and distribution Bruce McFarlane has urged the federal government to ensure it strikes a balance in the requirements asked of franchisors as part of its reform to the franchising code of conduct.
