A LONG-established business that only moved into franchising seven years ago has been named the emerging franchise system of the year.

The business, which now has 10 Victorian outlets, grew from one store on Bribie Island and now has a network of 57 stores in Australia and New Zealand.

The award was part of the Franchise Council of Australia.

Mr Rentals general manager Alan Payne said the success was due to the constant focus on innovation to increase efficiency.

"We have put considerable resources into information technology improvements alone over the past 12 months," Mr Payne said.

He said the innovation had given franchisees two and a half hours a week to focus on their businesses.

"IT is just one of Mr Rental's core competencies, on which business value is measured for both franchisees and customers," he said.

He said that in the past year Mr Hentals had undertaken an extensive legal review of rental contracts to ensure compliance with legislation changes.

It had also introduced an Accredited Franchise Traineeship to allow franchisees to successfully train in their own stores, and had rolled out updated network-wide collective agreement templates.
