Bakery serves up during flood

JOANNE and Maurice Patterson from Bakers Delight Caneland Central have been recognised for their commitment to the community after being awarded the National Franchisee Community Service Award at the Franchise Council of Australia’s Excellence in Franchising Awards last night.

Joanne, Maurice and their team are committed to supporting local schools, sporting clubs and community groups with product donations and raising money for national partners.

This year the team at Bakers Delight Caneland raised more than $8000 to support Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) and has been an active participant in Mackay’s Relay for Life for over three years.

however it was the bakery’s ability to continue to service the Mackay locals during the 2011 floods that helped them secure this year’s Community Service Award. The bakery was able to continue to trade and supply food to the community while the roads to other communities were closed off.

Joanne and Maurice felt the floods, although devastating to land and local properties, brought out the best in their local community.

"We pride ourselves on being a strong part of the Mackay community and giving back to the people who support us. The floods hit everyone hard, but I feel Mackay showed great character in working together and getting our lives back on track," Mrs Patterson said.

"Joanne and Maurice believe strongly in giving back to their local community. Their generosity and ability to go the extra mile is truly inspiring," Bakers Delight Queensland regional manager Darren Rodricks said.

The Excellence in Franchising Awards celebrates both regionally and nationally the success of hardworking Australian small businesses within the franchise sector.

The team at Bakers Delight Caneland provide the community with fresh bread each day, using real ingredients.
