NextGen in Franchising invites young entrepreneurs to explore opportunities and to Connect with the Franchising Industry

For any business, sustainable economic growth requires entrepreneurship and this is especially critical to the prosperity of franchising.

The Franchise Council of Australia (FCA) is uniquely positioned to play a pivotal role in attracting and developing future generations of franchising entrepreneurs.

The NextGen in Franchising Global Competition provides the crucial link between future and established generations of entrepreneurs. It incentivises young people to take an active interest in the FCA business community and is a major FCA investment in creating an innovative environment for their professional development and growth.

NextGen in Franchising is the beginning of an evolving dialogue with young entrepreneurs to understand their overall professional development needs and their business goals to empower them as business leaders for the future.

In February 2016, the Co-Founder of emerging Australian Franchise Paleo Cafe, Jai Hobbs, was named global runner-up in the International Franchise Association's NextGen in Franchising Global Competition. Mr Hobbs along with Jacob Foster, Managing Director of FCF Fire and Electrical, both represented Australia as two of 20 global winners from around the world in the NextGen competition at the recent IFA Convention in San Antonio, Texas in the USA.

Application for the NextGen competition is open to young entrepreneurs who have been in business between one and five years with a company that could scale through franchising. The competition rewards these innovators with access to the most successful entrepreneurs, executives, experts and financiers in the franchise industry.

Earlier this year, more than 250 applications for the NextGen competition were received from young entrepreneurs across the globe. As two of the 20 global winners, Mr Hobbs and Mr Jacobs were sponsored by the FCA to attend the NextGen in Franchising Summit and Accelerator program at the 2016 IFA Convention.

The NextGen in Franchising Global Summit and Accelerator program is designed to provide all global winners with the chance to meet with and gain mentoring from leading American franchise professionals. As part of the experience, each global winner has the opportunity to pitch their business in the "FranShark" competition, each presenting their concepts and plans to a panel of "FranSharks". Take a look at what some of the global finalists from earlier this year had to say about their experiences at the IFA Convention in San Antonio, Texas, USA.
