Cultural Diversity:
Can You Afford to Ignore It?

Dr. Barb West, Co-founder of Culture Works, joins us to shine a torch on some of the cultural values and communication styles that may prevent your business from taking full advantage of your diverse human capital. Dr West has spent more than 20 years lecturing, writing and leading workshops on successfully negotiating and utilising diversity and will have you asking yourself;

  1. Is your team equipped to deal with cultural diversity?
  2. Is your brand aware of communication styles and cultural logic frameworks?
  3. Would you even know how or where to begin?

After Dr West's keynote address, a panel of franchise brands will share their insights into how their business is leading the way in cultural diversity from franchise recruitment, franchise support and consumer purchasing behaviour;

About the Guest Panellists:

Sara Pantaleo, Chief Executive Officer, La Porchetta

Sara Pantaleo is CEO of La Porchetta, Australasia's largest, franchised, licensed, à-la-carte restaurant group.

When Sara joined the company in 1996, there were only 12 La Porchetta restaurants in Australia.  Sara was instrumental in driving growth and building the brand to its strong presence across Australia and New Zealand today. She achieved this by developing corporate systems and process that enabled the company to expand without compromising its core family values and culture.

Innovation has been vital to La Porchetta's success and under Sara's direction, ongoing structural and service developments have positioned the group for continued growth.

Sara is a passionate advocate for franchising as a business model and she has served on the FCA Board at a state and national level and as a member of the FCA CEO Group. Sara was also among the first group of Australian franchise executives to be awarded the prestigious Certified Franchise Executive (CFE) accreditation.

In 2010 Sara was awarded the Excellence in Franchising, Franchise Woman of the Year and was a Telstra Businesswoman of the Year Victorian finalist in 2012.

Chris Mavris has been involved in the Hospitality Industry for over 30 years, primarily in Food Retailing.  He has owned and operated numerous independent restaurants and cafes but a large part of Chris' experience has been in the franchising segment where he recognised the benefits of a systemised process for food retailing.

Chris has been involved with Soul Origin for the past three and a half years, seeing the company grow from three to 57 outlets during this time.

Chris is self-motivated with huge drive and a never say die attitude.

In late 2011 he took on the role of Franchise Establishment Manager to develop a new franchisee selection program in addition to leading the Learning & Development Team and pre-opening sales program. As the Franchise selection program developed and the needs of the business grew, he then focused full time in 2014 on driving the business development of Franchise Recruitment for existing & greenfield sales across Quest and worked to create a team to deliver on this strategy for the network. David has facilitated over 70 business transaction s within the group.
