There's no better time to be your own boss - Brisbane to host 2014 Franchising Expo

Written on the 8 July 2014

Media Release

Anyone who’s ever dreamed managing their own destiny, or turning their small business into an empire, will find plenty to motivate and inspire them at the Franchising & Business Opportunities Expo, which opens at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on Saturday 19 July.

“The Brisbane Franchising & Business Opportunities Expo will give visitors the opportunity to compare and research a diverse range of franchise opportunities with investment levels from under $10,000 to more than $500,000,” says Exhibition Manager Fiona Stacey.

According to the Franchising Industry Council, Franchising has been remarkably successful in Australia, with Australia/NZ having the world’s highest per capita penetration of franchised systems in the world.

The sector is a major contributor to the Australian economy; with 1180 franchise systems achieving $131 billion in annual turnover, and earning $300 million each year in export income. There are around 73,000 franchisees, which employ more than 400,000 people. In addition the indirect economic impact of franchising has been estimated at almost $4 billion annually.

One of the highlights of the Expo will be its free seminar programme, with sessions running throughout the two days of the show. The strong line-up of experienced and knowledgeable franchisors, franchisees and service providers includes Grant Garroway from The Franchise Shop, Geoff Carter from VIP Home Services, Suzanne Jarzabkowska from DC Strategy, Kevin Bugeja from Franchise Selection, Jane Garber-Rosenzweig from Franchise Legal, and industry consultant Brian Keen.

In addition the seminars will include a series of FCA Franchise Success Panels, where successful franchisees and franchisors from different systems will discuss their journeys and reasons behind selecting their chosen businesses. The Franchise Council of Australia (FCA) will also provide further insight into the franchising industry to help visitors decide whether franchising is right for them.

While the seminar series is an added bonus, visitors will gain most from meeting representatives from a wide range of businesses, so they can compare the opportunities on offer.

“Events like the Franchising and Business Opportunities Expo allow a close up look at brands you may be interested in,” says FCA General Manager, Kym De Britt.

“One of the fundamental ingredients for success as a franchisee is brand passion and culture fit. Being able to speak face to face with franchisors and compare several businesses under one roof is incredibly valuable.”

There will be an enormous range of industries represented, from hospitality and healthcare to home services and hairstyling. Local Queensland companies at the show include Express Mobile Services, Burger Urge, Raw Energy, Scottys the Movers, Property Club and Indian Brothers Restaurants.

National and international companies exhibiting include Mail Boxes Etc, Auto One Australia, Dream Doors, Tutor Doctor, PostNet Australia, Jim’s Test & Tag, VIP Home Services, Xpresso Mobile Café, The Cheesecake Shop and Minuteman Press International.

And some lucky visitors might even come away winners – with a number of exciting prizes being given away by exhibitors. Franchise Fitouts Australia will send one lucky visitor on a trip to Melbourne staying at Crown Casino, as well as giving away five $100 Myer gift cards, while Kwik Kerb is giving away an entire business package in association with Business Franchise magazine.

“This is the most exciting show we’ve held in Brisbane so far,” says Exhibition Manager Fiona Stacey. “Don’t miss out – entry is free if you pre-register online, and there is an abundance of information available on every aspect of being your own boss. It really is time to stop dreaming and start doing.”

The Brisbane Franchising & Business Opportunities Expo is on Saturday 19 July – Sunday 20 July at the Brisbane Convention Exhibition Centre 10am-5pm. Entry is $15 at the door or free with pre-registration.
