South Australian franchisees honoured at NAB FCA Excellence in Franchising Awards

Written on the 29 June 2013

The Franchise Council of Australia (FCA) honoured franchising’s best in South Australia last night at the NAB FCA SA Excellence in Franchising Awards for 2013.

Winners at the event included Peter Webb from Narellan Pools who took home the Franchisee of the Year, two of more staff award and Mark Carn from Action Coach who was awarded Franchisee of the Year, less than two staff.

Peter, along with his wife Marty and brother Paul has been with Narellan Pools for a little over three years and said the system was incredibly supportive of them, with head office staff even flying in for the event. He found the submission process provided the team with a great understanding of where the business was internally.

“There was a lot involved in the submission process, but it was actually quite relaxing to work through. I think our staff will be happy and excited that we’ve won,” he said.

Mark Carn of ActionCOACH, no stranger to the awards with his fourth win, said continuing education, as well as mixing with fellow coaches and business people allowed him to stay at the top of his game.

“We (ActionCOACH) have a couple of conferences a year, there are forums for coaches and we have an intranet with a wealth of information. I’m also part of a group of coaches that meets up via phone on a weekly basis. It’s a great thing (the win) for the organisation,” he said.

Richard Whittaker from Bakers Delight won the final award for the evening, Multi-Unit Franchisee of the Year. This was Richard’s second year of success at the awards, taking out the Franchisee Community Service award in 2012.

About to open his third store, Richard said recognition both from Bakers Delight and the franchising sector was a great reason to be involved.

“The feeling that you’ve been recognised by other people in your field is incredible. Bakers Delight deciding they wanted to nominate us was also a huge thing for us,” he said.

Following their success, Richard, Mark and Peter have all qualified as finalists for the NAB FCA National Excellence in Franchising Awards. The Gala Dinner will be held at Jupiters Hotel and Casino on Tuesday 22 October at the culmination of the National Franchise Convention. Each of the finalists will be flown to Queensland to attend the event.
