La Porchetta Holds Tribute to Co-Founder Rocky Pantaleo

Local Carlton identity and restaurateur, Rocco “Rocky” Pantaleo was remembered at a ceremony at La Porchetta, North Carlton on Monday 11th April.

During the tribute, speakers and guests, including City of Yarra Councillor, Jackie Fristacky recalled Rocky’s seemingly larger than life presence, his passion for life, love of a challenge, mischievous sense of humour and his generosity.

Rocky Pantaleo was aged only 21 when he came to Australia with absolutely no English, just a few short years of restaurant experience and a great deal of determination to build the best possible life here for himself and his family.

Together with his business partner, Felice Nania, Rocky turned a tired North Carlton restaurant into a local institution and they then began growing their enterprise around the country. Today, La Porchetta is the largest Italian-style restaurant group in the Asia-Pacific region.

Throughout his 25 years of building the La Porchetta business nationally and overseas, Rocky remained true to his first love, La Porchetta North Carlton and he worked there every day, managing the restaurant, making pizzas, and looking after his customers. La Porchetta North Carlton remains a Pantaleo family business and is now run by Rocky’s wife, Natalie and her children.

At the tribute, Rocky Pantaleo was also remembered as a generous supporter of charity. Sara Pantaleo, Rocky’s sister and CEO of the La Porchetta Group, says, “Rocky was a family man who cared about children and their welfare. He touched many people with his generosity and he was especially supportive of charities that give ill and disabled children the best possible start in life. He made a big difference to many young lives.”
