Franchising sector confident in downturn

Despite a tightening in the recruitment market over the next 12-months, the franchise sector continues to grow strongly. Figures from the recent Franchise Australia 2008 report by Griffith Business School showed an increase of over 15 percent between 2006 and the middle of 2008. Franchises have generally performed well, says Franchise Council of Australia executive director, Steve Wright. Griffith Business School's pro-vice chancellor, Professor Michael Powell, says the continued growth and maturation of Australia franchising is impressive, particularly considering the current economic outlook, a recent change of government, and a franchising sector that has faced close government scrutiny'. Meanwhile, disputes remain a big issue for the sector.
