Case Study: Success through teamwork

Written on the 29 August 2014

Tracy and Scott Skinner make a great team. Their V.I.P. journey is more unusual than most but it does show how working with a franchisor can offer flexible solutions.

It all started around 8 years ago when Scott was working as a Motor Mechanic and Tracy as an Administrational Manager. Scott was tired of the grease! Like so many he wanted to earn more money and take control of his life. Scott and Tracy joined V.I.P. taking on a lawns and gardens business. Scott worked the business full time and Tracy helped out one day a week.

Everything was going brilliantly until, due to a condition affecting Scott’s eyesight, he was no longer able to run a lawns and gardens business safely. Scott and Tracy came to see V.I.P. and explained their situation. The couple were understandably reluctant to give up the lifestyle, income and flexibility that their business had afforded them. V.I.P. was equally as reluctant to lose two great franchisees who had been servicing their customers so well.

“The flexibility of the business really suited us. When we first started our family Scott was able to get home when needed. It meant that he was able to support me not working and being a full time mum too. We really enjoyed the lifestyle that we had built up and didn’t want to see that go.” explained Tracy, mum of two.

The obvious choice was for Tracy to take over the lawns and gardens business but that really didn’t suit her. “I enjoyed helping out in the business with Scott but running a lawns business wasn’t really for me.” continued Tracy.

After meeting up with their Support Manager it was decided that Scott and Tracy would remain franchisees with V.I.P. but would simply move divisions.  “When we got the opportunity to transfer the business to the cleaning division I was delighted.  Having our own franchise business really suited us and working in the cleaning industry suited me so much more. We were very impressed with the flexibility of V.I.P. that enabled this change. You never know what is around the corner and we are so glad that we have our own business with a company that cares about us and could work with us in this flexible way.”
