Bank awarded for quality

The Bendigo Bank has been named the most socially responsible franchisor in Australia.

The Excellence in Franchising Awards aim to recognise and celebrate the excellence and high quality work by members of the franchising sector.

The awards were presented by the Franchise Council of Australia, in Canberra last month.

Bendigo Bank customer and community executive Russell Jenkins said the award was recognition of the work the bank did within the community and the importance of their Community Bank model.

He said since the Community Bank was launched 14 years ago, the model had given back more than $80 million to the community.

"This award is in recognition of a model which provides communities with more than just quality banking services," Mr Jenkins said.

"It delivers employment opportunities for local people, retains local capital and provides a source of revenue for important community projects determined by the local community." Mr Jenkins said since the Community Bank initiative first began, network returns had grown significantly each year.

He said the continued growth and popularity of the Community Bank model would mean returns would pass the $100 million mark by the end of next year.

Mr Jenkins said sharing the success of the bank with customers was a core value of the Bendigo Bank.

"We believe successful customers and successful communities create a successful bank, but only in that order." he said.
