Information for participating franchise systems

Award Definition

This award recognises excellence in business management and franchise citizenship for franchisee owner operators (including partners) with up to one staff member (full-time equivalent).


This award is open to franchisee owner operators (including partners) that meet the following conditions:

  • The franchisee owner operators employee up to one staff member (full-time equivalent) in their franchise business
  • The franchisee owner operators have been operating for a minimum of two years
  • The franchisee owner operators are not multi-unit franchisees

Award Process

  1. Review the assessment criteria below to confirm that you are willing to respond to detailed questions in these areas.
  2. In 2016, Regional Awards submissions will open one state at a time and will be run on a rolling calendar. Click here to view the opening and closing dates for awards in your state.
  3. Complete the online entry form and pay the application fee. Your application fee goes toward covering the administration, marketing and assessment costs associated with the Awards.
  4. You will be sent a unique link to complete your online submission containing a number of specific questions based on the areas of assessment below. No late submissions will be accepted.
  5. All submissions will be assessed using predefined criteria to create a short-list of finalists. You will be kept informed of the status of your submission.
  6. Finalists will be interviewed and their business will be mystery shopped. It is anticipated the interviews will be conducted by phone. Finalists may be required to submit additional financial documentation to support their submission.
  7. State award winners of the Single Unit Franchisee of the Year (Less than 2 staff) for QLD/NT, NSW/ACT, VIC/TAS and SA will be announced at an exclusive, invitation-only dinner with the FCA Board, a select group of franchisors and the Award finalists. State award winners of the Single Unit Franchisee of the Year (Less than 2 staff) for WA will be announced at a Regional Award Dinner. The overall National winner will be announced at the Gala Awards Dinner, which form part of the FCA National Franchise Convention.

Business Planning and Performance
Weight: 42%
Word Limit: 1,200
How you plan and monitor your business' performance. This includes such things as your business goals as well as how you measure the financial health of your business.

Systems Management
Weight: 12%
Word Limit: 400

Sophistication of the systems you use to efficiently operate and protect your business. This includes such things as your IT systems as well as procedures you have established that go beyond the franchise operations manuals.
Franchise citizenship
Weight: 12%
Word Limit: 400
Your involvement and contribution to the franchise system as well as the status of your relationships. This includes such things as how you contribute to your fellow franchisees as well as how you maximise the benefits of being part of the franchise system.
Openness to Learning and Change
Weight: 12%
Word Limit: 400
Your commitment to personal and business development. This includes such things as new franchisor initiatives you have supported as well as any training and self-development you have recently completed.
Community and Environmental Contribution
Weight: 22%
Word Limit: 800
Your engagement in and contribution to the local community. This includes such things as community groups and initiatives you or your business have contributed to or been involved in.
