Information for participating franchise systems

Award Definition

Excellence in implementation of a franchisor international expansion strategy.

Eligibility

Brand must have originated in Australia. Entries must pertain to a single brand. Multi-brand franchisors are eligible to enter, but must declare which brand they are entering. All material, information and achievements must pertain solely to that brand.

Award Process

  1. Review the assessment criteria below to confirm that you are willing to respond to detailed questions in these areas.
  2. Complete the online entry form and pay the application fee. Entries close 13 May 2014. Your application fee goes toward covering the administration, marketing and assessment costs associated with the Awards.
  3. You will be sent a unique link to complete your online submission containing a number of specific questions based on the areas of assessment below. Submissions must be received by close of business 26 May 2014. No late submissions will be accepted.
  4. All submissions will be assessed by specialist judges using predefined criteria. Judges may contact you to verify or clarify aspects of your submission. You may also be invited to submit additional information or material to support your submission.
  5. The winner of the Excellence in International Franchising award will be announced at the 2014 FCA Gala Awards Dinner which forms part of the FCA National Franchise Convention.

This area covers background information in relation to the company’s international expansion program.

Research
Weight: 12%
Word Limit: 400

Research undertaken prior to international expansion. This includes specific research undertaken in each market as well as piloting or testing of the franchise concept in new markets.
Strategy
Weight: 12%
Word Limit: 400
Key strategic issues identified for success in each market. This includes investment of people and resources in the planning process as well as issues identified and how these have been addressed.
Risk management and adaptation
Weight: 12%
Word Limit: 400
 
How risks have been minimised and unforseen challenges managed. This includes risks identified prior to entry into each market as well as adaptations made to your concept, products or marketing in the light of piloting or unforseen challenges.
Implementation and support
Weight: 36%
Word Limit: 1,200
How effectively expansion plans have been implemented and supported in each market. This includes processes used to select international partners, agents or franchisees as well as initial training and ongoing support provided for local operators.
