2014 Australian Emerging Franchisor of the Year

Information for participating franchise systems

Award Definition

This award is for excellence in franchising practice by an emerging franchise system that has been franchising its brand for between two and five years.

Eligibility

This award is for excellence in franchising practice by an emerging franchise system that meets the following conditions:
1. It as been franchising its brand in Australia for between two and five years.
2. It has not been franchising outside Australia for five or more years.
3. The parent company's head office is located within Australia.
4. Entries must pertain to a single brand. Multi-brand franchisors are eligible to enter, but must declare which brand is being entered. All material, information and achievements must pertain solely to that brand.

Award Process

  1. Review the assessment criteria below to confirm that you are willing to respond to detailed questions in these areas.
  2. Complete the online entry form and pay the application fee. Entries close 13 May 2014. Your application fee goes toward covering the administration, marketing and assessment costs associated with the Awards.
  3. You will be sent a unique link to complete your online submission containing a number of specific questions based on the areas of assessment below. Submissions must be received by close of business 26 May 2014. No late submissions will be accepted.
  4. All submissions will be assessed by specialist judges using predefined criteria to create a short-list of finalists. You will be kept informed of the status of your submission.
  5. Finalists will be interviewed by an independent panel of judges. This may be over the phone or in person. If in person, finalist will be required to attend at own cost. Finalists may be required to submit additional financial documentation to support their submission and a phone survey may be conducted on a sample of franchisees.
  6. The winner of Emerging Franchise System of the Year, and merit award winners, will be announced at the 2014 FCA Gala Awards Dinner which forms part of the FCA National Franchise Convention.

Planning
Weight: 35%
Word Limit: 1,200
This area measures the planning processes the franchisor uses to identify and address key strategic issues likely to impact on the performance of the franchise network. 
Franchisor leadership,support and satisfaction
Weight: 30%
Word Limit: 1,200
The capability of the franchisor team to lead the franchise network and the resulting levels of satisfaction.
Financial performance of franchisor business
Weight: 15%
Word Limit: 600
The ability of the franchisor company to meet its current and future financial commitments. This includes the profitability of franchisor company and the health of the company's balance sheet.
Financial performance of franchisees
Weight: 10%
Word Limit: 400
How the franchisor monitors and responds to the financial performance of franchisees. This includes the profitability of franchisees as well as processes for assisting underperforming franchisees.
Citizenship
Weight: 10%
Word Limit: 400
The company's involvement with and contribution to industry associations and the community. This includes involvement with the franchising sector as well as the company's contribution to the franchising sector or industry groups.
