Information for participating franchise systems

Award Definition

This award recognises excellence in business management and franchise citizenship for franchisee owner operators (including partners) with up to one staff member (full-time equivalent).

Award Process

  1. Review the assessment criteria below to confirm that you are willing to respond to detailed questions in these areas.
  2. Complete the online entry form and pay the application fee. Entries close 15 March 2013. Your application fee goes toward covering the administration, marketing and assessment costs associated with the Excellence in Franchising Awards.
  3. You will be sent a submission kit containing a number of specific questions to guide your submission and make the process as efficient as possible. Submissions must be received by close of business 29 March 2013. No late submissions will be accepted.
  4. All submissions will be assessed using predefined criteria to create a short-list of finalists. You will be kept informed of the status of your submission.
  5. Finalists will be interviewed and their business will be mystery shopped. It is anticipated the interviews will be conducted by phone. Finalists may be required to submit additional financial documentation to support their submission.
  6. State award winners of Franchisee of the Year, and merit award winners, will be announced at Regional Award Dinners, with the overall National winners announced at the Gala Awards Dinner, which form part of the FCA National Franchise Convention.

Areas to be assessed

Business Planning and Performance How you plan and monitor your business' performance. This includes such things as your business goals as well as how you measure the financial health of your business.

Systems Management

Sophistication of the systems you use to efficiently operate and protect your business. This includes such things as your IT systems as well as procedures you have established that go beyond the franchise operations manuals.
Franchise citizenship Your involvement and contribution to the franchise system as well as the status of your relationships. This includes such things as how you contribute to your fellow franchisees as well as how you maximise the benefits of being part of the franchise system.
Support Networks and Wellbeing The strength of your social support networks and how you take care of yourself. This includes such things as networks you participate in that enable you to talk about issues of importance to you, as well as how you maintain your health and energy levels.
Marketing and Customer Contact How you market your business locally and stay in touch with customers. This includes such things as local promotions you have run as well as how you monitor customer service standards and customer satisfaction.
Openness to Learning and Change Your commitment to personal and business development. This includes such things as new franchisor initiatives you have supported as well as any training and self-development you have recently completed.
Community Contribution Your engagement in and contribution to the local community. This includes such things as community groups and initiatives you or your business have contributed to or been involved in.
