Award Process

  1. Review the assessment criteria below to confirm that you are willing to respond to detailed questions in these areas.
  2. Complete the online entry form and pay the application fee. Entries close 1 June 2013. Your application fee goes toward covering the administration, marketing and assessment costs associated with the Awards.
  3. You will be sent a submission kit containing a number of specific questions to guide your submission and make the process as efficient as possible. Submissions must be received by close of business 17 June 2013. No late submissions will be accepted.
  4. All submissions will be assessed by specialist judges using predefined criteria. Judges may contact you to verify or clarify aspects of your submission. You may also be invited to submit additional information or material to support your submission.
  5. The winner of the Excellence in International Franchising award will be announced at the 2013 FCA Gala Awards Dinner which forms part of the FCA National Franchise Convention.

Areas to be assessed

Background information Background information in relation to the company's international expansion program. This includes the initial catalyst for considering international expansion as well as how the entry into each international market was structured.

Research

Research undertaken prior to international expansion. This includes specific research undertaken in each market as well as piloting or testing of the franchise concept in new markets.
Strategy Key strategic issues identified for success in each market. This includes investment of people and resources in the planning process as well as issues identified and how these have been addressed.
Risk management and adaptation How risks have been minimised and unforseen challenges managed. This includes risks identified prior to entry into each market as well as adaptations made to your concept, products or marketing in the light of piloting or unforseen challenges.
Implementation and support How effectively expansion plans have been implemented and supported in each market. This includes processes used to select international partners, agents or franchisees as well as initial training and ongoing support provided for local operators.
Commitment Commitment to sustainable international expansion. This includes dedication of personnel solely for international expansion as well as the level of investment into research and resources to support international growth plans.
Financial performance Results achieved from international expansion. This includes sources of revenue and proportion of total earnings from international operations as well as growth in international units over the past two years.
