2013 Established Franchisor of the Year

Information for participating franchise systems

Award Definition

This award is for excellence in franchising practice by an established franchise system that has been franchising its brand for more than five years.

Award Process

  1. Review the assessment criteria below to confirm that you are willing to respond to detailed questions in these areas.
  2. Complete the online entry form and pay the application fee. Entries close 1 June 2013. Your application fee goes toward covering the administration, marketing and assessment costs associated with the Awards.
  3. You will be sent a submission kit containing a number of specific questions to guide your submission and make the process as efficient as possible. Submissions must be received by close of business 17 June 2013. No late submissions will be accepted.
  4. All submissions will be assessed by specialist judges using predefined criteria to create a short-list of finalists. You will be kept informed of the status of your submission.
  5. Finalists will be interviewed by an independent panel of judges. (Either by phone or in person). If in person, finalist will be required to attend at own cost. Finalists may be required to submit additional financial documentation to support their submission and a phone survey may be conducted on a sample of franchisees.
  6. The winner of Established Franchisor of the Year, and merit award winners, will be announced at the 2013 FCA Gala Awards Dinner which forms part of the FCA National Franchise Convention.

Areas to be assessed

Strategic Planning The planning processes the franchisor uses to identify and address key strategic issues likely to impact on the performance of the franchise network. This includes research undertaken on the business environment and the investment of resources in the planning process.
Franchisor Leadership The capability of the franchisor team to lead the franchise network. This includes the leadership values and philosophy of the company respect franchisees have for the leadership team.
Culture and franchise relationships Franchisee satisfaction and the sense of pride, community and collaboration that exists throughout the franchise network. This includes how the company encourages trust and good communication as well as the number and nature of disputes and how these have been resolved between franchisor and franchisees.
Financial performance of franchisor company The ability of the franchisor company to meet its current and future financial commitments. This includes the profitability of franchisor company and the health of the company's balance sheet.
Financial performance of franchisees How the franchisor monitors and responds to the financial performance of franchisees. This includes the profitability of franchisees as well as processes for assisting underperforming franchisees.
Franchise development The company's plans and systems for sustainable growth as well as actual growth achieved over the past 2 years. This includes the company's growth plans and the research and resources in place to support these as well as the sophistication of franchisee recruitment processes.
People development How the company develops the capabilities of the people within the franchise network including franchisor staff, and franchisees and their staff. This includes systems for training new franchisees and how the learning needs of existing franchisees and franchisor staff are identified.
Franchisee support The range and effectiveness of support services to franchisees. This includes resources allocated for and how field support programs are structured and implemented.
Marketing and innovation Product innovation and effectiveness in the delivery of marketing. This includes how the company get's franchisee "buy-in" to marketing initiatives and unique marketing and sales tools that help to give franchisees a competitive edge.
Systems management The sophistication of systems associated with IT, documentation and risk management. This includes how software systems are used in the collection and management of data as well as systems for ensuring legal compliance, including Franchising Code compliance protection and Intellectual Property.
Citizenship The company's involvement with and contribution to industry associations and the community. This includes involvement with the franchising sector as well as the company's contribution to the franchising sector or industry groups.
